Care Tips
This Barbados Cherry has a small dark evergreen leaf. The extremelyvibrant pink and yellow blooms appear between April and October. The
growth habit of this bonsai makes it a fun trimming project that is easy to
maintain.
Water the soil of your bonsai properly by using a watering can or hose
attachment that has a fine-spray end. You should thoroughly soak your
bonsai’s soil. Water should be running out of the drain holes. You can also
submerge the pot in standing water for a few minutes to fully saturate the
soil. Aim to maintain even soil moisture. Misting foliage periodically is
recommended but should not be considered watering.
General care is also important to maintaining a beautiful bonsai. Bonsai
should be periodically trimmed to keep their miniature shape. To best
understand trimming and wiring techniques, we recommend purchasing an
instructional book.
Winter Care.
Your Barbados Cherry bonsai needs to remain indoors in the winter and
should not be allowed to experience temperatures below 40. Place the tree
directly in front of a bright window but away from HVAC vents. For
temperatures above 60 degrees, we recommend that you bring your
Barbados Cherry outdoors to a patio, deck or porch where it will receive
morning sun and afternoon shade.
Fertilizing.
Fertilizing Barbados Cherry bonsai is required. Most water-soluble and time
released fertilizers work very well when used as directed.
Insects and Diseases.
Insects and diseases can attack your Barbados Cherry bonsai just like any
other plant. Inspect your bonsai regularly. A brisk spraying of the trunk and
foliage will periodically help keep your tree clean. If any problems appear,
most garden centers have products available for treatment.
