Cupcakes, Roses and Zoom, oh my!

Although we’d always prefer to sing Happy Birthday and toast our loved ones in person, these days there are all kinds of creative ways to celebrate birthdays. Read on for some of our tried and true ways, as well as some new fun ideas you may not have thought of, for how to celebrate from far away.

Sing Happy Birthday Virtually

With the popularity of services like Zoom, Skype and Google hangouts, as well as FaceTime, it’s never been easier to stay in touch with your loved ones from anywhere in the world. Get everyone in the house together, give your loved one, and sing them Happy Birthday as loud as you can! While you’re at it, take the time to have a meaningful conversation and ask all about everything going on in their life. Sometimes the best gift is being a good listener!

Send Birthday Flowers

Everyone loves flowers! A tried and true to celebrate a loved one’s birthday is by sending flowers. Although it’s always nice to send a bouquet of some kind, you can take your gift next level with a flower subscription box. Instead of just receiving flowers from you once, they will get flowers from you all year! You can sign them up for monthly flower deliveries, weekly flower deliveries, and bi-weekly deliveries. Do you know for a fact that your loved one has a thing for roses? A rose subscription is such a gorgeous gift—you can send a bouquet with a new variety of roses every single month.

Send sweet cupcakes

You may not be able to bake your loved one a cake, but why not send them a little slice of heaven from a local bakery? Try researching bakeries and restaurants online and on Yelp in your loved one’s city, give them a ring and ask if they do delivery. Even better—if you know your loved one’s fave dessert, research the best local restaurant for that dessert and get it delivered. Did she enjoy a delicious key lime pie the last time she was in Key West? Find the best bakery in town that serves key lime pie. A delicious gesture!

Send them some works of art

Here’s a PSA: receiving fun mail is as fun now as it was when we were kids! Sit down and take the time to write your loved one a beautiful and heartfelt letter. Enlist the kids to create beautiful paintings, drawings and cards. Pop them in an envelope and they are sure to make your loved one smile!

Treat them to lunch

Does your sister love good Mexican—after all, who doesn’t!? Find the city’s best spot for tacos and get them to deliver! Not only will your loved one appreciate the effort, but she’ll enjoy her delicious meal while doing so!

Sweet serenade

Remember how much you loved getting a mix tape? Taking the time to put a personalized playlist is not only a sweet gesture but a little gift that always gives. Create a list of songs that your loved one loves, and of your own “songs” you may share together, on Spotify and send their way—it will make such a sweet and special surprise.

We hope we have given you a few ideas about how you can say Happy Birthday from far away. Although you may not share the same city, you can still send your love!
