Recipe 11: One-Size-Fits-All

Monday, December 18, 2017

Welcome to the second phase of our Flower Chef tutorials! This next section of the book focuses on floral foam, and if you’re like me, you’ll be loving this new technique in no time! Let’s get started with the one-size-fits-all arrangement. All you need is one simple ingredient, a block of floral foam, and an opaque vase.

Person preparing a floral arrangement with a variety of colorful roses lined up in a row, including yellow, green, peach, and red roses, with a green bowl and clippers on the side.

The recipe calls for 1 bunch of yellow roses. We used [a variety of colors](https://www.bloomsybox.com/roses-collection to spice things up a bit! You can choose whichever color – or colors – you like best. (Spoiler alert: You might want to bookmark this post for your December BloomsyBox delivery!)

Step 1: Soak your floral foam. Fill a sink or bucket with cool water and place your foam brick on top. If the foam has holes in one side, be sure to place the holes facedown in the water to absorb faster. Most floral foam will be fully saturated within 10-20 minutes. Once the foam is fully soaked, trim it to fit snugly inside your vase.

Step 2: Prep your roses and cut the stems. Remove any leaves or greenery from the roses and cut your stems to your desired length. If your roses are not fully opened, you can open them up by blowing on the center and pushing out the outer petals. The more you know!

Step 3: Arrange your flowers. Place your first rose in the center of the foam. Then, take 4 more stems and place them in each corner of the vase with the stems at an angle so the roses rest on the edge of the vase (you might need to cut your stems a bit shorter for the outer edges).

Once you have your center and corners established, place the next 4 roses on each side of the vase between the corner roses. Finally, add in six stems evenly around the center stem to finish the arrangement off! The roses should form a slight dome shape. Add more roses or adjust heights of your stems as needed to achieve the proper shape.

And there you have it! Five minutes of prep and about 10 minutes of arranging will leave you with this beautifully simple arrangement, perfect for holiday entertaining!
